Cat’s Meow: Recitations Grand Finale

In its 12th year, the Cat’s Meow was well-attended on Monday, February 22. Three hundred senior students competed to earn one of the 17 spots at this evening event, and the finalists did an incredible job. All of these girls deserve special recognition for this achievement alone. Click here to see finalist names.

The night was highlighted by some very poignant, emotional pieces this year (and a few very dark ones too!).

Our four judges included actors, a musician, and a lawyer. They were: Ricki Prosper and Elda Havlin, and YHS parents Dave Genn and Tracey Wood.

The prizewinners for the evening were as follows – a very tough decision for the judges!

3rd place – Stephanie, Gr. 12

2nd place – Anna, Gr. 10

1st place poem – Aleisha, Gr. 9

Top Overall Recitation & People’s Choice Award – Sora, Gr. 12

Thanks to the English Department for their work and guidance during class rounds, to the YHS staff who volunteered to judge the grade finals, to our guest judges, and to all the students and staff who helped with photography, videotaping, ushering, and more! And finally, thank you to my incredible Co-Heads, Rainy and Julia, who have made the whole process easy and fun!

Congratulations to all students for taking on a worthwhile challenge!
