Basketball Season in Full Swing

Gr. 8 Basketball Team
The Gr. 8 Basketball team takes a break from the Capilano U Tournament in North Vancouver.

This past week was a busy one. Basketball season got back into full swing and the Tigers are off to a good start.

The Seniors started with a split – handily beating Burnaby Mountain, but coming up a little short against AAA MEI. Congrats to Emma, who received a Telus Classic Scholarship this weekend at the Telus Classic Tournament.

The Juniors are 1-0 on the season, taking their first points from CHS this past week, and the Grade 8s charged forward to a 4-1 start. The 8s placed 3rd in the top gold division at the Capilano U tournament, beating Handsworth and Earl Marriott. The only loss they had was to the tournament champions, a club team from tri-cities.

Tigers Volleyball 6th Overall

After an unprecedented season, the Senior Volleyball team headed off to the Provincial Championships last week. They were primed and ready to go. They started strong, as they had all year, and unfortunately lost a couple at the end to finish 6th overall in the tournament.

After a great day of volleyball on Saturday (Nov 30), our girls came up on the losing endĀ of a tough match against #1 seed Lambrick Park. They had won against a strong Sa-Hali team that morning to advance to the quarter-finals but were unable to match the consistency and experience of Lambrick. They gave them a good fight and while the scores don’t reflect it, provided probably their toughest opposition so far in the tournament.

On Sunday morning the girls defeated Kalamalka (winners from last year) and played Elphinstone in the afternoon. They played an excellent first set against Elphinstone, but unfortunately the second set was not as strong. Despite some excellent ball, they came up just short, losing 17-15 in the third – placing them 6th overall in the tournament.

We are so proud of all of the effort they put in, playing the best volleyball this school has ever seen. A big congratulations to the team for a spectacular season, and a big THANK YOU to Coaches Ruse, Coutts, and Wilson for all of the time and expertise they have given.
