SENIOR BASKETBALL AT AA BC CHAMPIONSHIPS
The Tigers have a rich history of success at the AA BC Basketball Provincial Championships. If you are not familiar with that history, see below.

This year, the Senior Tigers look to add to that success by competing at the Langley Events Centre March 2-5 against 15 other top-ranked teams from throughout BC. York House enters the tournament as the #3 seed in the field of 16 but will face the Kootenay champions from Kimberley in game 1 and likely the Okanagan zone champions from Vernon’s Kalamalka Secondary in game 2. Reaching the final four is always a team goal and if the Tigers achieve that they will likely face off with a very talented Mulgrave team.

Game 1 YHS defeated the  Kootenay zone champion, Selkirk Secondary 73-26

Game 2 will be Thursday, March 3 at 3:30 vs the Okanagan champions, Kalamalka from Vernon

TIGERS BASKETBALL UPDATE

SENIOR TIGERS WIN LMISSGBA LEAGUE & PLAYOFF CHAMPIONSHIP:
The Senior Tigers finished the regular season undefeated to claim the LMISSGBA League Championship trophy, our first League title since 2013. This week in playoffs, our Tigers easily defeated Crofton House 67-30 in the semi-final, then defeated BC’s #4 ranked team, Notre Dame 69-50 in the final to claim our second consecutive LMISSGBA Playoff Championship. Of course, the last season was 2019-20 when YHS went on to take bronze medals at BCs.

The 2020-21 season was erased due to COVID-19 but would have been a season where YHS would have been favoured to win a BC Championship. The Senior Tigers are currently ranked #2 in BC. Next week, YHS will battle Mulgrave and their young guns in the Vancouver Sea to Sky Zone Championship game. This promises to be a good game as it pits the #2 and #3 ranked teams in BC. Mulgrave is a young team led by star Eva, Grade 10. Our Tigers are an experienced group with eight Grade 12s who are wrapping up their final season as Tigers. The graduating Tigers were honoured Wednesday night. These girls have had a highly successful career winning provincials in Grade 8, placing 9th at Junior BCs, then winning bronze at AA BCs in 2020. Our Grade 12s include Annika, Avery, Finley, Kasey, Mila, Rain, Sam, and Sophie.

JUNIOR TIGERS ADVANCE TO ZONES:
Congratulations to our Junior (Grade 9-10) Tigers Basketball Team who played one of the most exciting playoff games in recent memory, defeating Crofton House 49-47 in our LMISSAA quarter-final game. YHS went on to face a very tough LFA team in the semi-final. LFA is ranked among the top 10 teams in BC and YHS was no match for the Angels. However, as a result of our third-place result in the league, the Tigers advanced to the Vancouver Sea to Sky Zone Championships, hosted by LFA this week. Good luck to our Tigers and congratulations on an excellent season.

GRADE 8 TIGERS BUSY WEEK IN PLAYOFFS & ISA CHAMPIONSHIPS:
Our Grade 8 Tigers finished in third place in our LMISSAA league and hosted playoff games this week. On Tuesday, YHS defeated St. Pat’s in the quarter-finals to earn a spot in the league semi-final vs a very tough Notre Dame team. Next week, our Grade 8 Tigers will compete at ISA Championships, hosted by Collingwood in West Vancouver. Good luck to our Tigers and congratulations on a great season.

TIGERS SKIERS CLAIM ZONE CHAMPIONSHIP
On Friday, our Skiers dominated the slopes at the Vancouver Sea to Sky South Zone Race! The Tigers took home the zone title with a great performance. They have qualified for the Provincial Championships, February 27-March 2 in Golden, BC. YHS ranks as one of the top teams in BC.

  • York House skiers finished 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th place!
  • Tigers placed seven of the top 10 skiers and 11 of the top 25 skiers!
  • Congratulations to Nicole, Maddie, Laura, Alexa, Isabelle, Smera, and Amanda for their top 10 placing at zones. Nicole beat all the boys except for one.
  • York House snowboarders also had a great performance at Zones, placing 2nd, 3rd, 4th place.

York House travels to Golden, BC on February 27 to compete at the BC Championships where they have a shot at winning a championship. This is a young, talented and exciting team. Good luck!
