Tigers Win Vancouver City Challenge

It was a stellar weekend for our Tigers Basketball squads.

A big CONGRATULATIONS goes to our Junior Tigers who won the Vancouver City Challenge defeating the #1 team in the VSB league, Sir Winston Churchill, 41-27 in the final. They played terrific basketball building a 25 point lead with all-star performances by Ishira and Michelle.

The Senior Finals was expected to be a highly contested battle between Notre Dame and our very own Tigers. YHS jumped to a 9-0 lead to start the game. They cruised to a 77-55 victory in what might be considered an upset as ND was seeded higher than us. Big CONGRATS to Ashna, named Tournament All-Star; Emma, named Best Defensive Player; and Maddy, named Tournament MVP (who took home a $500 scholarship as well). A big Congrats to Brianna for dominating the 3pt shooting contest.

Last weekend was also a great weekend for Tigers Basketball: The Juniors defended their ISA Championship (this is their 7th gold in a row and 12th of the last 14 contests); the Grade 8s headed to Kamloops for the Sahali Tournament, and brought home gold; and the Seniors had a tough first match against a very strong Duchess Park team, but won the rest of their games for a 5th place finish.

In the coming week, the Tigers host CHS on Tuesday: Grade 8s play @ 3:45, Juniors play @ 5:15, and Seniors play @ 6:45. On Thursday the Tigers host Notre Dame: the Seniors play @ 3:45, the Grade 8s play @ 5:15, and the Juniors get the late shift @ 6:45. Friday and Saturday, the Juniors and Grade 8s have tournaments at Brookswood in Langley and WAF in Abbotsford, respectively.

The Jr (Gr. 9-10) Tigers took care of business at Jr ISA’s this past weekend defeating CHS, Brentwood and SMUS to defend their ISA Basketball Championship. The Jr Tigers have won seven consecutive Jr. ISA Championships and 12 of the past 14 championships. Congratulations to all the girls and their coaches.

Gr. 8 Tigers Win Sahali Tournament in Kamloops

The Gr. 8 Tigers traveled to Kamloops along with our Sr. Tigers this past weekend to compete at the Sahali Sabres Invitational Tournament. York House defeated a very physical Brocklehurst team in Game 1. Then they took on the top team in Kamloops, Westsyde, and despite being down by 7 points in the second half, stormed back to take a 3 point lead in the final minutes and held on for a one point win. In Game 3 the Tigers took care of Sahali to claim first spot. The Grade 8 Tigers improved their season record to 11 wins and 2 loses: one loss to a club team and the other a close battle with Holy Cross. Congrats to all the players.

Sr. Tigers 5th at Sahali

After nearly a month since their last game, the Sr. Tigers started 2014 playing Duchess Park, likely the best AA team in BC this year. The Tigers battled hard to stay close but dropped a 61-39 decision. The Tigers rebounded by winning their next two games beating GW Graham from Chilliwack and Norkam from Kamloops.
