At this morning’s assembly…

Head Girl Abby kicked off this morning’s senior school assembly with a fun reminder about traffic around the school – a poem praising the King Edward Ave lay-by (it’s the easiest way to drop-off/pick-up!). Listen to it here:

The Sr. Swim Team was presented with their gold medals for winning the BC Provincial Championships – the highest honour in BC High School Athletics:

And the YHS Gay/Straight Alliance played a short video: a Q&A about the GSA:

The assembly concluded with another short video from “Monday Morning Live” (Student Executive) on proper uniform etiquette, featuring several male senior school teachers battling it out on “YHS’ Next Top Model.” The winner was Mr. Cropley, who demonstrated the proper way to wear the uniform: no scarves or ear muffs and the ideal kilt length. Now… how do we get a hold of that video?!

Basketball Season Preview – Sr Tigers News

November 29 marks the official start of the 2010-11 basketball season. It promises to be another exciting year for Tigers Basketball.

The Senior Tigers begin the year ranked AA #1 in BC and hope to defend their Provincial Championship. The team is young, having graduated 7 players in 2010, the Tigers have no current grade 12’s and are led by a very strong group of grade 11’s. The addition of three grade 10’s give this team the needed depth to continue to play the uptempo game that is what your expect from the Tigers. New uniforms are a highlight and the introduction of a 3rd jersey which is sure to turn some heads. Watch for Tigers results here online and in the local media as the Tigers play in many high profile events during the year. The HSBC tournament is December 7-9-10-11 and our 13th annual 26th St. Tournament will be Feb 3-4-5, 2011.

The Jr. Tigers are very young and will focus on development this season as will our Bantam Team (gr. 8) who have great potential. Our Gr. 7 Team is likely our strongest ever and with the coaching we have at all levels, the Tiger tradition of excellence is sure to continue.
