Spanish 10 Class Wins Vista Higher Learning Video Contest

Vista Higher Learning have announced the winners of the secondary education 2011 Video Contest.  They received nearly 200 entries to this year’s contest, themed Languages: My Future. The judging panel had a tough time selecting the three winners—Wellsville Central School in New York, American School of the Hague in the Netherlands and our very own Spanish 10 Class!

Winners will receive $1,000 toward their school…the girls, along with Señora Marte, are in the process of deciding what to do with the prize money.

Here is our winning entry:

To honour Remembrance Day two assemblies were held on Thursday, November 10.

At the junior school assembly, following a performance by the Gr. 5/6 Choir, the Head Girl and Vice-Head Girl of the Junior School concluded the assembly by giving a  “peace medal” to every student as they crossed the stage.

The peace medals are simply a rectangle of paper that says “Peace” on the bottom. The girls attached them to their sweaters or shirts to wear with their poppies. There was enough room for them to decorate the paper with something meaningful to themselves, such as message of peace; name or initials of a friend or family member who served in the military, or a peace symbol.

Veteran Peter Bone was invited to speak at the senior school assembly, and the senior choir also performed.

Thank you to Emily Y. for the photos.
