YHS & Saints are the Spring Reign 2011 Champions

The Senior Ultimate team travelled to Burlington, Washington on April 29th to compete in Spring Reign, the largest highschool mixed ultimate tournament in North America. The girls from York House and the boys from Saint Georges have had a successful season so far in Vancouver with no losses and mostly easy wins, but the American schools made the team step-up their game.

On Saturday the team faced two schools from Washington State and one from Idaho, finishing the day with two wins and one loss. The 2-1 record placed the team in the Championship bracket, and Sunday started with the quarter-final game against the Vancouver team from Kitsalano. After a close win against Kits, and another close win in the semi-finals the team progressed to the final game against Ballard, a Seattle highschool. With the scored tied at 10-10 the hard time cap horn went, so the final point would be carried out, and the team to score the point would take victory. After turnovers by both teams, the final huck went up by Greg Moore to Mira Donaldson who caught the disc for the win.

The team competes in the Vancouver City Championships on May 7th and hopes to take home gold in the Provincial Championships at Burnaby Lake on the May 14th weekend.
