Meet the 2022-23 Annual Giving Committee

Every year, a dedicated group of volunteers partner with the Advancement team to help increase community participation in the Annual Giving Campaign.

The Annual Giving committee plays a key role in building energy and support for the campaign. Throughout the year they give their time to connect with our families and share information about the positive impact of donations to the school. Activities include taking part in phone-a-thons and volunteering at our annual YHS Day of Giving — this year taking place on May 25 (save the date!).

We are extremely grateful to our enthusiastic parent volunteers for supporting our goal of 100% participation and raising funds for important equipment, resources, and programming that benefits every York House student.

If you have yet to make a contribution to the Annual Giving Campaign, please consider supporting us online through yorkhouse.ca/donate — every gift makes a difference! If you have already made a donation this year — thank you for your generosity!

Meet Our Annual Giving Campaign Co-Chairs: Shannon Chung and Phoenix Shih

Meet our Annual Giving Campaign Co-Chairs – Shannon Chung and Phoenix Shih. Their leadership and energy inspire our community to support, volunteer, and donate to the appeal every year.

Shannon has two daughters, Danica, Grade 6 and Teagan, Grade 4, and her hobbies include singing, music, health, and wellness. She truly loves being involved in the York House community. Giving back to the school has allowed Shannon to make some of her closest and dearest friends, and for that, she is grateful to have made those connections.

Shannon and her family chose York House because they felt the school’s values and motto “Not for Ourselves Alone” connects with them so personally. They feel that it is important Danica and Teagan understand from a young age that the opportunity to learn and grow at YHS is not only for their own benefit, but can be shared with others to enrich the community at large.

One favourite thing about York House for Danica and Teagan is the library and common areas. It provides them with comfortable spaces to form connections and friendships. Danica and Teagan love the STEAM program, and Danica is also enjoying her first year in band.

Phoenix is originally from Taiwan and grew up in Vancouver. She attended UBC and practiced as a registered nurse for more than 10 years. She now owns a bakery business and is a proud mother of two Yorkies, Elena, Grade 4, and Estelle, SK. An important value for her and her family is to be grateful and give back to the community.

Phoenix and her husband believe that York House will truly provide the education that they had imagined for their daughters. The school motto also resonated with their own family values around service and giving back. York House is a place where they want their girls to thrive and they are so grateful to be a part of the community.

If Elena and Estelle had to pick a favourite thing about York House it would be friendship! York House has provided opportunities for the girls to play and grow together. Every day Estelle plays in the newly build friendship playground with her friends at the Little School, and Elena enjoys all the activities and athletic programs with her friends and classmates at the Junior School.

Shannon and Phoenix believe volunteering to support the Annual Giving Campaign is a way to help encourage the community to participate and how donations positively impact the learning experience and environment for our Yorkies. We are so grateful for their efforts to bring our community together to help shape the future of our school.

Every family, every year!
