York House Welcomes New Parents

On October 3rd, York House welcomed this year’s new parents and staff at the New Parents’ Dinner.

New parents, new staff, and administrators began the evening with a lively cocktail reception in the Senior School Atrium. Stephanie, Grade 12, Allison and Arissa, Grade 11 and Tera, Grade 10 performed an exhilarating trumpet fanfare to catch the attention of our guests followed by PA president Farrell Eckman who welcomed everyone to the dinner.

Once the guests were settled at their tables, New Parents’ Committee Chair and York House alumna, Lisa Crossfield ‘88, welcomed guests to our community. Jonathan McDonald spoke on behalf of the Board of Governors followed by our Head of School, Julie Rousseau who thanked our new families entrusting York House with their daughters’ education. She also shared a great story about how she recently joined in some imagination play with our Junior School girls who were trying their hand at an advanced medical procedure to help a lion get back its roar!

We were treated to speeches by the Head Girl of the Junior School, Jessica, Vice-Head of the Junior School, Sophia, as well as the Senior School Head Girl, Ava, all of whom spoke of their experiences as new students when they first started at York House.

A delicious short rib dinner was served by a collective of new Grade 8s and some of our Senior School student ambassadors who did a fantastic job of serving and clearing plates for each course.

The evening concluded with the ‘New Parents’ Movie’ which featured each one of the new girls.

A huge thank you goes out to the New Parents’ Committee. An enormous amount of planning and hard work went into transforming the gym into an inviting harvest dining room and we are very grateful to all our amazing parent volunteers headed by our alumna Lisa.
