NovemberFest

Our Community Service Captains organized “NovemberFest” in the Senior School. This lunchtime event allowed senior students to explore community service opportunities at a variety of organizations, including CISV, Me to We, Covenant House Vancouver and the United Way. Students who volunteer their time outside of YHS were able to share information about the organizations that they are currently volunteering for.

Swim Team Wins Provincial Championship

SwimTeamGroupShots01XYHS swimmers take home their fifth BC Championship in the past six years

Congratulations to our Tigers Swim team for winning the 2015 BCSS Provincial Championship with a girls team score of 287 points. The championship was held in Kamloops on November 14.

The Tigers took home the Girls’ Division Provincial Title and placed fourth overall in combined scores that included all schools in BC, most where point totals come from men’s and women’s events. This is YHS’s fifth BC title in the past six years (we won silver in 2014).

After a successful day of preliminary heats on Friday, November 13, the Tigers were ready for the finals on Saturday. Saturday started off great for YHS as the 200m medley relay team of Christine, Marissa, Rachel and Elizabeth won gold while breaking a BCHS Meet Record. The rest of the day continued to produce positive results for YHS but the Tigers trailed WPGA and were in a close pack with Salmon Arm and Penticton High throughout much of the morning. York House took the points lead after Lauren, Gr. 12, won bronze in 100m fly, and Elizabeth, Gr. 12, won silver in the 100m individual medley.

SwimProvs_BOTB_11XHeading into the final events of the meet, the Tigers relay teams had the championship in sight as they entered the final two relay events. With two Tigers relay teams placing first and fourth place in the 200m free relay and fourth in the 200m open relay, the championship was theirs. York House placed first overall with 287 points, WPGA placed second with a distant 239, followed by Salmon Arm Secondary School with 194.

SwimProvs_BOTB_09XSpecial congratulations to a very special group of Grade 12s who have been an amazing team over the past five years at YHS. As Grade 11s and 12s, they have been terrific leaders and swimmers. Their commitment to the swim team has been extraordinary and they truly deserve winning this title. Congrats and thank you to Christine, Elizabeth, Alicia, Nicole, Rachel, Fraser and Lauren.

Congratulations and thank you to the team coaching staff, Ms. Bernier, Ms. Matthews, Danielle Tongetti ’13 and Laura Sze ’11. You did a great job!
