Putting the “Fun” Back in Founders’ Day

The Student Executive were on a mission to put the “fun” back in Founders’ Day this week, with games and and trivia leading up to the big day on Friday. Today at lunch there was a vintage uniform contest. These Senior girls did a great job of modelling:

Speaking of uniforms, we also spotted these snazzy new Field Hockey uniforms on some Gr. 9 girls. Some day, these will also make it to the YHS Museum & Archives!

Sr. Volleyball Off to a Great Start

Tigers Banner (white)The Sr. Volleyball team is off to a great start. Last week at at UBC, the girls found their groove and went through their first tournament day of the season undefeated, going 3-0 vs. Oak Bay, SMU and Langley Christian School. They looked quite good and earned a berth in the top power pool. On day 2 the team played three top AAA and AAAA schools and lost some close matches to finish 4th in the top pool of the tournament.

This week they played Notre Dame on Monday, and STM on Wednesday. They came out on top both nights, but the game against STM was a challenge. STM played unbelievable defense and it very difficult for the girls to find their groove. It took until the 5th set for the Tigers to finally step into their game and put them away. The girls were exhausted but managed to find a way to win!

Next week will be busy with a practice on Monday, a scrimmage on Tuesday, games Wednesday (at St. Pats) and Thursday (at home vs. WPGA, 5:15pm start), and then the girls are off to Nanaimo for a tournament on Friday and Saturday. Good luck Tigers!
