YHS Students Take Virtual Field Trip with Google Expeditions

On March 30, 2016, YHS hosted Google Expedition Trainers. Many of our Junior School and Senior School classes had the opportunity to experience Google’s latest virtual reality technology. Students who participated were able to visit places all over the world without leaving the classroom.

Our teachers had a choice from a list of over 230 expeditions to enhance classroom learning. Expeditions selected included “Biomes”, “Life in the North: Churchill, Manitoba”, “Versailles”, “Life of a Robot”, “Ocean Safari”, “Out of Syria: Back into School” and “Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum”. Here are some of our Grade 3s and a Grade 7 French class trying out the technology.

YHS Welcomes Grandparents and Grandpals

Grandparents and grandpals came to visit their Yorkies on our annual Grandparents’ Day.

The day started with a reception and refreshments in the Gail Ruddy Foyer, followed by a presentation in the theatre. Head Girl Helen welcomed Grandparents by speaking on how much her own grandparents, and this special day, means to her. Grandparents were then treated to a special presentation from the Grade 3s, and four musical performances.

The rest of the day was spent touring the school and visiting classrooms. In the Junior School, the girls had a chance to show their grandparents special projects they have been working on. There were experiments in the Science room, robotics demonstrations in the Grade 7 classroom, and story time in the Junior Learning Commons. Shuttle buses also took grandparents to the Little School.

This special day is a wonderful way to honour Yorkie grandparents. Grandparents’ Day is one of our most cherished York House traditions and is held every Spring.
