Grade 3s with Chocolatier Mark Flaming

Who loves reading? Grade 3 girls do when the novels are all about chocolate! We read and compared The Chocolate Fever and the Chocolate Touch.

To culminate our chocolate study Purdys Chocolatier Mark Flaming visited with our Grade 3 classes. The girls learned about the origin of chocolate, how it is harvested and made into delicious treats. We then tasted four different types of chocolate and chose our favourite. Mr. Flaming kindly brought each girl one of the beautiful and delicious chocolate flowers, a special spring feature at Purdys.

YHS Welcomes Grandparents & Grandpals

IMG_7042Grandparents and grandpals came to visit their Yorkies on our annual Grandparents’ Day.

The day started with a reception and refreshments in the Gail Ruddy Foyer. Grandparents were then treated to three musical performances in Odette Tognetti theatre.

Samantha, Gr. 12, performed her rendition of “Pie Jesu” by Andrew Lloyd Webber. This was followed by two songs from Chorista: an early 16th century French madrigal, and a more personal piece called “Letter from a Girl to the World“. Elizabeth, Gr. 10, performed Samuel Barber’s “Nocturne op. 33“.

IMG_7171The rest of the day was spent touring the school and visiting classrooms. In the Junior School, the girls had a chance to show their grandparents special projects they have been working on. There were musical performances in the French classrooms, and even a some story time in the Jr. Library.
Shuttle buses took grandparents to the Little School, where they were welcomed with a special song [SKY song | SKH song].

This special day is a wonderful way to honour Yorkie grandparents. Grandparents’ Day is one of our most cherished York House traditions and is held every Spring.
