Kayaking & Surfing with Advanced Outdoor Ed

This summer, from August 18-26, some of our Grade 12 students joined Mr. Britt and Ms. Harrigan on a Advanced Outdoor Education trip.

The group stayed in Ucluelet for one night before starting a four day sea kayak expedition around Vargas Island in Clayoquot Sound, northwest of Tofino.

The girls were entirely in charge of the trip, from leading to cooking. After the kayaking, there was a rest day followed by two days of surfing.

The Grade 12 students who joined the trip included Aria, Sophie, Olivia, Manpreet, Esther, Emma G., Adrienne and Bethany. Well done girls!

Volleyball Update

Congratulations to the Sr. Volleyball team for winning the Jr. Boys (!) tournament on Sunday. They spent the day playing seven matches at Carver Christian School in Burnaby against boys teams. The girls ended up playing the Bodwell Senior Boys team in the finals and defeated them in straight sets to win what is probably the first boys tournament won by a girls team! Keep in mind that the Jr. boys net is about 3-4 inches higher than the girls net they usually play on. Great job girls!

Not to be outdone, the Junior Team have built a record of 8-2, and have a league record of 4-0. On Saturday they played in a tournament in Port Moody at the Harry Jerome Sports Centre. They beat Eric Hamber, Southridge, Walnut Grove, Crofton House and Burnaby, before losing a close game to Lord Tweedsmuir in the tournament final. A great job, placing 2nd overall. Congratulations to the girls, and thank you to their coaches Lisa, Brianne and Steve.
