Yorkies in costume for “Oliver” – this week at the Norman Rothstein Theatre.

Four of our Yorkies, Kathleen (Gr. 8), Vanessa (Gr. 9) , Laura (Gr.9) and Anna (Gr. 6) are performing this week in the musical “Oliver!”.

These girls are part of a local community musical theatre company for children in Grade 4 through 9, Encore Musical Theatre.  These dedicated young people rehearse every week from September through June in order to put on their full-length musical theatre production in June.

This year’s show promises to be entertaining, with a wonderful set and colourful period costumes. Familiar tunes such as “Food Glorious Food” and “Where is Love?” are what make “Oliver!” a favorite of adults and children alike.

If you would like to see the show, it plays this week, Thursday June 7 @ 7pm, Friday June 8 @ 7pm, and Saturday June 9 @ 2pm and 7pm at the Norman Rothstein Theatre at 41st and Oak.

More information about showtimes and tickets can be found at www.encoremusicaltheatre.org.

Care Canada Walk-a-Thon

On May 3rd, the senior girls participated in a walk-a-thon to support Care Canada’s Walk in Her Shoes campaign.

Girls collected pledges in advance, and on the day of the walk they were invited to dress in something that would reflect their cultural heritage.

The goal was to walk 6 kms, as many women do on a daily basis to get water, food, wood, etc… in order to raise awareness and money for women and girls in developing countries.

As they crossed each station, they received a coloured ribbon symbolizing the following: development (brown), health (red), nutrition (blue) and education (green).
