Friendship Bracelets for Uganda

On Tuesday, February 7, in support of International Development Week, students got together during lunch hour to make friendship bracelets for an elementary school in Uganda. Ten students and three teachers will be visiting Uganda this summer and will deliver these bracelets in person to Kimunyu Nursery and Primary School in Ibanda.

Grade 8’s were away at camp and Grade 9’s had a field trip last week but all are welcome to our next Friendship Bracelet Making lunch hour on Tuesday, February 14. in Room 103. What better way to celebrate Valentine’s Day than making something for someone else?

First Advanced Outdoor Ed Group

The first Advanced Outdoor Education Group at York House has started its 2012 program.

The girls will be engaging in a 5-day sea kayak trip on the west coast of Vancouver Island, then a 2-day surf clinic to wrap things up. Not only is this an incredible outdoor education experience, it also meets the standard for the Duke of Edinburgh Gold Standing. The program includes a team building rock climbing session, two sessions getting oriented to kayaking and many team meetings throughout the year.

In these shots below the girls are completing their first sea kayak training session in December. It was a chilly day to dump the boats but the views were stunning. More exciting photos to come!
