Walk in Her Shoes: International Women’s Day

On Friday, the Senior School recognized International Women’s Day by participating in the Walk in Her Shoes Challenge. Students & staff wore orange civvies and walked a route near the school, with donations going to Care Canada.

According to Care Canada, 70% of the world’s poorest people are women and girls. The walk represented 8000 steps that women from developing countries have to walk to access food, water and health care for their family. See the photos from the walk below.

Also, check out the short videos below from the International Women’s Day Speaker’s Corner held in the library, and the kick-off to the walk held in the gym.

Model UN in NYC

IMG_6549Fifteen students from the Senior School Model UN class participated in the National High School Model United Nations (NHSMUN) conference in New York City, held March 2nd to March 8th, 2015.

Representing Cote d’Ivoire on a range of UN committees, the students conducted extensive research to prepare and had an opportunity to meet with Cote d’Ivoire’s mission to the United Nations and speak with them — in a mixture of French and English − about their country’s political priorities.

The conference helped to strengthen students’ understanding of parliamentary debate and to learn about what actual UN diplomats do. Other highlights included the closing ceremonies, which were held in the General Assembly Hall of the UN headquarters and seeing a Broadway musical, Beautiful: The Carole King Musical.
