Christine, Gr. 11, Hosts Swim-a-Thon for Cystic Fibrosis

On February 25th, one of our fabulous Junior Swim Team student coaches Christine (Gr. 11), hosted a Swim-a-thon in support for Cystic Fibrosis.

Prior to the event, we met with an inspiring woman who has beaten the odds and lived a productive and healthy life despite her early diagnosis of CF. Read her story here. Many of our swim team girls swam in her honour; all of us had her story (and those of others living with CF) in our minds as we swam.

This fun event wrapped up the Junior Swim Team’s amazing season. In total the team swam 18900 m, which is 756 lengths of St. George’s 25m pool! This is roughly the distance one would swim between Kitsilano beach and Sandy Cove, West Vancouver and back!

Through her hard work and dedication to the team, Christine modelled our school motto Not for Ourselves Alone.

Rosa, Gr. 9, qualified for the Junior Nationals Debating Championships!

Rosa was at the Law Foundation Cup, a two-day provincial debate tournament which was hosted at St. George’s.

Rosa worked tremendously hard to qualify for this event and persevered through illness and the tricky logistics of being paired with a partner from a different school. She held her own among top debaters from across the province, earning glowing comments from judges, and gracefully arguing her way onto the top 10 roster of junior speakers who will be moving onto the national debate tournament being held in Winnipeg this May.

We are so proud of her accomplishment and feel honored to be able to watch her represent York House at the national level.
