Senior Tigers Update: February 27, 2020

SENIOR TIGERS RETURN TO THE AA BC CHAMPIONSHIPS
This week, the Senior Basketball Tigers will be back in familiar territory. York House Tigers were a fixture at the BCs from 1998-2014 having competed in 17 consecutive BC Championships. Something no other program in BC has achieved. To add to that impressive streak, York House always placed top 8 with one 8th place finish, two 6th place finishes, one 5th place finish, one 3rd place finish, four silver medals, and eight BC Championships.

The Tigers enter the tournament as the 5th seed in the 16 team draw. We are a young team led by Grade 11 standout Nadeen and a host of talented Grade 10s (including Avery, Finny, Mila, Rain, Kasey, and Sophie) who are no strangers to BC Championships (they won in Grade 8 and placed 9th last year as Juniors). The Senior roster also enjoys the talent and depth by Grade 12s Emma, Akash, Chloe, Jacqueline, Amneet, Natalie, and Maddie.

Game 1 for the Tigers was on Wednesday, February 26 at 1:30 pm vs 12th seeded Holy Cross. Games continue Thursday-Saturday, February 27-29 at the Langley Events Centre (LEC).

The YHS Tigers Ski & Snowboard Team are again competing at the BC Championships at Panorama Mountain Resort near Invermere, BC, from March 1-4. York House has enjoyed incredible success at BCs over the years and looks for yet another podium finish. The team is a mix of youth and experience led by veterans of multiple BCs such as  Laura, Lauren, Alexa, and Natasha. The teams includes students from Grade 8 to 12 that also include: Georgia, Ayiana, Smera, Ariell, Jessie, Jacqueline, and Maddie.

Good Luck to our Ski & Snowboard Team!

Junior Tigers Update: February 27, 2020

BASKETBALL
The Grade 7 team had their final practice of the year on Thursday morning, and we are fully prepared to play Mulgrave School in the first round of the 2020 ISEA Grade 7A Basketball Tournament on February 28 at Collingwood School (Wentworth Campus). When the Tigers and Titans met last, the game ended in a tie, so we are expecting another close battle. The winner of this game will play the top-seeded CHS Falcons in an effort to pull off a massive upset. We will have a full recap of the tournament next week.

SWIMMING
On Thursday, February 20, the Swim Team competed in the ISEA Swimming Championships and finished 2nd overall! This is a very impressive result given that we had only three swimmers in each of Grade 3 and Grade 7, not even enough to make a relay team. Overall, our individual results were fantastic, and our Grades 4, 5 and 6 relay teams performed very well. The team worked very hard to achieve personal bests results and have fun, and Head Coach Christine Lee (‘16) thinks the team met both goals easily.

Speaking of Christine, we owe her a big THANK YOU for leading our swimming team with enthusiasm and passion. We are very lucky to have Christine as our Head Coach. Another thank you to Carmelita Carlberg-Nangle and our student coaches Victoria (‘20), Devon (‘21), Vivian (‘21), Monique (‘22) and Tristan (‘24). Coaches are a vital part of any athlete’s journey and we are fortunate to have so many good coaches with our swim team. Finally, congratulations to all of the student-athletes who met the challenges and commitments of this past season. The journey matters, and we are very proud of how well you all represented York House School.
