Girl Power: Set Building for the Sr. Play

Our Theatre Technician Grant McAvoy has been working with the Senior girls on set design and set building for the upcoming Spring Senior Play (Feb 28 – Mar 2).

While the Jr. Girls Chess Tournament was going on outside the theatre on Sunday, the Sr. girls had a great day set building inside the theatre. They started with an in-depth safety discussion, thorough training on the proper use of power tools – and then they were off building flats. Set building will continue on Friday, a Pro-D Day.

Here’s some photos of the girls putting their new power tools to good use:

Four of our Yorkies, Kathleen (Gr. 8), Vanessa (Gr. 9) , Laura (Gr.9) and Anna (Gr. 6) are performing this week in the musical “Oliver!”.

These girls are part of a local community musical theatre company for children in Grade 4 through 9, Encore Musical Theatre.  These dedicated young people rehearse every week from September through June in order to put on their full-length musical theatre production in June.

This year’s show promises to be entertaining, with a wonderful set and colourful period costumes. Familiar tunes such as “Food Glorious Food” and “Where is Love?” are what make “Oliver!” a favorite of adults and children alike.

If you would like to see the show, it plays this week, Thursday June 7 @ 7pm, Friday June 8 @ 7pm, and Saturday June 9 @ 2pm and 7pm at the Norman Rothstein Theatre at 41st and Oak.

More information about showtimes and tickets can be found at www.encoremusicaltheatre.org.
