Tiger Party 2018

On Friday, February 23rd, many in our school community gathered to celebrate the Lunar New Year of the Dog and the YHS Parents’ Association Tiger Scholarship at the Bandao Pearl Restaurant. Thanks to Shannon Chung and her amazing and dedicated team, our community gathered together for a festive feast of fundraising and scholarship, all in the York House School tradition of “Not for Ourselves Alone”. The YHS Foundation offers a number of scholarships, but this year the YHS Parents’ Association celebrated its first graduating Tiger scholar. The YHS Parents’ Association Tiger Scholarship now has Yorkie scholars in Grades 8-12. Shannon, thank you and your team, for your tireless energy and joy in bringing people together. Thank you, EVERYONE!

Celebration of Community

Thank you to all the families who joined YHS staff and students for our annual Celebration of Community at the Chan Centre on Tuesday, December 5. Each year, we begin the holiday season with this festive event, which invites our community to share in the gifts and talents of our students.

Our Junior School performed an enthusiastic renditions of some well-known hits, such as “Count on Me” (Gr. 3 & 4), “Brave” (Gr. 5 & 6), “Put a Little Love in Your Heart” (Gr. 7 Choir), and “Heal the World” (finale).

Thank you to our Senior Concert Band and our senior vocal ensembles for their energetic performances: “Sleigh Ride” (Sr. Concert Band), “Winter Magic” (Grad Singers), “Hush! Somebody’s Callin’ My Name” (Chorista), and “Linus and Lucy” (Ragazza).

Interspersed throughout the afternoon of performances were sing-a-long carols, a multilingual reading of “The Polar Express” by Gr. 11 students Angela, Safya, and Heley, as well as a fun-filled presentation by our Sr. Improv Drama group.

Thank you to Ms. Ninan, Mr. Gueulette, and Ms. Haylett for their work with our very talented musical students; thank you to Ms. Harrigan and our improv team and our Modern Languages’ Department for working with students on a trilingual reading this year.

A special thanks to Leith Wheeler Investments for sponsoring this event for the 20th year in a row. We truly appreciate their commitment to York House as well as the broader community. Donations from those who attended the concert went to the Quest Outreach Society.

The impressive venue, carol singing, and festive atmosphere continue to make for a wonderful holiday tradition. Watch the performances below:
