York House Welcomes New Parents

On October 3rd, York House welcomed this year’s new parents and staff at the New Parents’ Dinner.

New parents, staff, and administrators began the evening with a cocktail reception in the Senior School Atrium where they heard from PA president Gillian Smith, followed by dinner in the Rand Gymnasium.

Once the guests were settled at their tables, New Parents’ Committee Chair and York House alumnae, Lisa Crossfield, welcomed guests with a speech about our wonderful parent community. Our Head of School, Chantal Gionet then thanked our new families for coming together and talked about the strength of our York House community.

We were treated to speeches by the Head Girl of the Junior School, Ella, as well as the Senior School Head Girl, Saskia, both of whom spoke of their experiences as new students when they started at York House.

A delicious short rib dinner was served by our student ambassadors as well as some of our new girls who did a fantastic job of serving and clearing plates for each course.

After a welcome by our Chair of the Board of Governors, Neil Menzies, the evening ended with the ‘New Parents’ Movie’ which featured each one of the new girls.

A huge thank you goes out to the New Parents’ Committee, which organized the event, and to the many volunteers who helped to transform the gym on the morning of the 3rd.

Welcome Back BBQ

A huge and very belated THANK YOU to the committee of our YHS Welcome Back BBQ. What a wonderful event you gave to our school community! I would like to thank Farrell Eckman, Junko Harvey, Jenny Kusumoto, and Kelly Lieu for putting on the most successful BBQ yet. The food was delicious and was presented without a hitch. A wonderful thumbs up and welcome to the new, fabulous chicken skewers! We try and work closely with Mother Nature: we had the least amount of landfill garbage EVER! And Mother Nature kept the rains at bay.

We very much would like to thank Cecil and his team for all of their support with the cafeteria as well as for their patience and enthusiasm.

With huge gratitude,

Gillian Smith
YHS PA President
