Gr. 6 & 7s Take First Place at ISABC Public Speaking Competition

Congratulations to our Gr. 6/7 team for taking first place at the ISABC Public Speaking Competition!

Eighty-three students and 42 judges from 16 different schools came together for the competition on April 21st at West Point Grey Academy. The Grade 6s gave speeches of welcome or farewell, while the Grade 7s gave persuasive speeches on a subject of their own choosing.

For the Grade 6s, Bianca (YHS) placed first and Sophie (YHS) was the runner-up. For the Grade 7s, Kiran (Stratford Hall) took first place and our own Kiara tied for second place along with Gabriella (Crofton House). York House was the overall winning school. Congratulations to all that participated!

YHS Takes Top Spots at Provincial Speech Championships

York House students took top spots at this weekend’s Provincial Speech Championships in Vancouver. Saskia, Gr. 10, placed first in the Acting Category, and Rosa, Gr. 10, placed first for Persuasive Speaking and Debate, second for Acting and third overall in the tournament. Rosa will also be advancing to the National Competition in Winnipeg next February, which is the qualifier for the World Public Speaking & Debate Competition. Also competing were Isabelle, Gr. 11, Sarah, Gr. 10, and Catherine, Gr. 9. All the girls represented YHS very well, and should be congratulated on their positivity and sportsmanship!
