On October 12th students facilitated tables and showcased posters and literature raising awareness about issues, organizations, and volunteer opportunities that students can get involved in. Volunteer Fest is a great opportunity for students and teachers to promote any charities or initiatives that they feel passionately about and share them with the YHS community. Volunteer Fest was started due to high levels of student interest to volunteer in our YHS community and beyond. Some of the opportunities that were showcased included Seniors with Seniors, Special Olympics, Youth Art for Action, Adam’s Apples, Vancouver Food Runners, Best Buddies Canada, and Pedalheads.
Food Bank Frenzy!
The Food Bank Frenzy (FBF), the Junior School’s first official House Event of the 2022-23 school year, took place on Tuesday, October 11. Gaining points towards the highly coveted House Shield is always exciting. For the FBF, we ask each student to bring two cans and a toonie to support the Greater Vancouver Food Bank (GVFB). Using a relay race, the Houses compete to be the first team to deliver their bounty to the middle of the field. With the music pumping and the teams cheering, our motto “Not for Ourselves Alone!” takes on a very high level of energy. This year, the winning House was Pine. Congratulations to Pine and a big THANK YOU to our community for supporting the Greater Vancouver Food Bank.
