Senior Tigers Update: May 18, 2018

TRACK TEAM TO BC CHAMPIONSHIPS
Congratulations to the entire Track & Field Team and their coaches: Jacob Emerson, Brianne Wager, Natalia Hawthorne, and Flo Chan. The following athletes have automatically qualified for the BC Championships held May 31 – June 2 in Langley, BC.

  • Sophie, Gr. 9
  • Claire, Gr. 9
  • Emily, Gr. 11

Congratulations girls! More YHS athletes may qualify through the open zone application process.

SENIOR A VARSITY ULTIMATE TEAM TO BCSS ULTIMATE CHAMPIONSHIPS
For the first time in the history of ultimate in BC, the BC Championships are being run and sanctioned by BC School Sports. Prior to this year, Ultimate BCs was always run by the provincial sports organization, BC Ultimate. Now, ultimate teams are competing for the highly coveted BCSS blue championship banner.

The YHS-St. George’s team, called TIGHT, competed at the AAA Lower Mainland Championships this past week. The team placed second in pool play and finished fifth overall.

SOCCER SEASON WRAP UP
Our Senior Soccer Team came up one win short from qualifying for the Vancouver – Richmond Zone Championships but congratulations to our girls and our coaches for some excellent results during the season! The Tigers easily defeated St. Pat’s in the final game of their season.

Our Junior (Gr. 8-10) Soccer Team wrapped up their season Wednesday with a 4-1 win over Notre Dame to place third in our LMISSAA league. Congrats to the girls and coaches.

SOCCER NEXT SEASON
At this time, we expect to field just one soccer team next season rather than two. We have faced too many challenges fielding both a Junior and Senior Soccer Team these past two seasons as so many girls are involved in Ultimate, Track & Field, or in their own community sports. Many of our busiest soccer players are unable to play at YHS due to their club commitments and many others, who play soccer in the community from August to March, are excited to play ultimate or run track during the spring. Fielding one Senior Team will mean a large roster of the best Grade 8-12 players at YHS are involved on the team.
