After an unprecedented season, the Senior Volleyball team headed off to the Provincial Championships last week. They were primed and ready to go. They started strong, as they had all year, and unfortunately lost a couple at the end to finish 6th overall in the tournament.

After a great day of volleyball on Saturday (Nov 30), our girls came up on the losing end of a tough match against #1 seed Lambrick Park. They had won against a strong Sa-Hali team that morning to advance to the quarter-finals but were unable to match the consistency and experience of Lambrick. They gave them a good fight and while the scores don’t reflect it, provided probably their toughest opposition so far in the tournament.

On Sunday morning the girls defeated Kalamalka (winners from last year) and played Elphinstone in the afternoon. They played an excellent first set against Elphinstone, but unfortunately the second set was not as strong. Despite some excellent ball, they came up just short, losing 17-15 in the third – placing them 6th overall in the tournament.

We are so proud of all of the effort they put in, playing the best volleyball this school has ever seen. A big congratulations to the team for a spectacular season, and a big THANK YOU to Coaches Ruse, Coutts, and Wilson for all of the time and expertise they have given.

Sr. Volleyball: LMISSAA Champs!

A HUGE CONGRATS to the Sr. Volleyball team and coaches! For the first time ever, the senior team clinched the LMISSAA trophy with a 3-0 demolition of LFA. The Finals MVP was Michelle, Siobhan and Laura were League All-Stars and Emma was Team MVP.

Before advancing to the league championships, the girls beat STM in 5 (15-3 in the 5th with some huge clutch serves from Caitlin and some excellent defense from two Gr. 10s, Alex and Michelle).

The girls played the best volleyball we’ve seen from them this year, and quite possibly the best volleyball ever from a YHS team. There was some great defense on LFA big hitters, some great defense plays and the typical spectacular offense. Beating undefeated LFA 3-0 was impressive, but most impressive was the smiles, the positive energy and the fun the girls were having.

The team competes in the AA Lower Mainlands on Wednesday and Thursday afternoon.

The Sr. Volleyball team also recently took home the Spartan Cup from the 2013 Western Canadian Ind. School Volleyball Championships and decisively won their second straight ISA Trophy. Read about that here.
