Grade 7 Yorkies Choose Mental Wellness for Technovation Challenge

Earlier this year, three Grade 7 Yorkies – Aria, Olivia, and Georgia – signed up for a Technovation Girls challenge. Every year, Technovation invites teams of young people from all over the world to learn and apply the skills needed to solve real-world problems through technology. We are so proud of the three of them and the tremendous effort they’ve put into this challenge. With input and support from Technovation Mentors, friends, and family (including YHS!), they have had to learn how to create a mobile app that solves a problem they care about. The girls chose mental wellness in youth. They tackled this project together (from a safe distance!) creating a business plan, developing the creative imagery, and learning how to code to produce the app they proudly call MeMood!

Here is a link to their pitch video:

Their project was submitted for judging and we knew you’d want to join us in celebrating their achievement! The girls appreciate all the support they received from the YHS community in so many ways to help them get here.

Virtual Curtain Call: Addams Family Cast & Crew

On March 7th, 2020, the YHS Addams Family Musical cast, crew, and band performed our closing show for an audience of close to 300 people in the YHS Tognetti theatre—an annual tradition that has been in place for many years. What we didn’t know at the time was just how lucky we were to have been able to continue this tradition this year, to showcase the five months of hard work and energy we had put into a large public audience, together in a theatre, while other schools and performance companies were forced to postpone, reschedule or cancel their productions in the face of the COVID-19. As we reflect upon this experience, we honestly can’t believe how lucky we were and how extremely grateful we are to have had the opportunity to present our production as planned without any disruptions.

What we did miss, however, was the opportunity to present certificates to all those involved in our first assembly back after Spring Break to honour their hard work and talent. As an alternative measure, we decided to post the certificates to the students so they could be congratulated on their success and celebrate their victory at home with their families. And as you can see, they have arrived! To the amazing YHS cast and crew of this year’s musical production, we are so proud of all of your efforts, your dedication and your passion for theatre, and we congratulate you all on a wonderful performance in The Addams Family Musical. Here’s hoping we have many more to come!
