In honour of this year’s International Women’s Day, the Senior School supported the Cause We Care Foundation (CWCF) on the March 8th Community Day.
CWCF is a local organization committed to supporting marginalized single mothers and their children. The Foundation believes in strengthening the capacity for self-help, creating opportunities for growth and providing relief and supplies for life’s basic needs.
This year, CWCF has partnered with the YWCA to provide subsidized housing and program space for single mothers and their children. The “Cause We Care House” is slated to open in 2014 in the downtown eastside and is for women who need a safe and affordable place to live.
The girls are very excited to develop a long-term partnership with an organization serving the needs of children and women within our own community. They gathered in the foyer in the morning to share their message of support for single mothers and to learn more about the value of giving women a ‘hand-up’. Check out the photos.
The Senior Library also got into the spirit of International Women’s Day. On display were books on women and girls from ancient Greece to modern North America to contemporary Afghanistan. Examples included history books, such as Godesses, Whores, Wives, and Slaves; and novels such as Parvana’s Journey.
