It’s Back to School! Our Student Executive, faculty and staff were out in full force on the first day of school to welcome back students and parents as they arrived.
The first two days have been a flurry of activity, including a “Dance Party” during Senior School recess, hosted by our Student Executive. The Exec also created this hilarious video to play at the first assembly of the year. It is clear that this group of girls is excited to be taking on this leadership role this year.
The first Junior School assembly of the year included a special introduction of one of our school values, “respect.” Assistant Director the Junior School, Jenn Skelding, and Director of the Junior School (JK-Gr. 7), Shelley Lammie, led a dance to Aretha Franklin’s “Respect.”
The welcome back festivities continued Friday after school at the Welcome Back BBQ:
What a day! What a turn out!
A huge shout out and thank you to parents Farrell Eckman, Jenny Kusumoto, and Junko Harvey (and Facilities Director Paul Sinclair) for hosting all of us, across three campuses, on the afternoon of Friday, September 9 at the YHS Welcome Back BBQ! And also a loud thank you to YHS Alumnae Association President Lisa Roberts ’82 , and Past President Anna Dhillon ’95 for donating and handing out all of the popsicles to kids and adults alike!
It’s great to see our community getting out and enjoying each other’s company. There were parents (and some grandparents!) flipping burgers, serving up buns, playing with kids, and talking with teachers and staff. A fun time was had by all – such a great way to start the new school year! Thank you so much to the Welcome Back BBQ Team for starting the school year off with such fun and energy!

Sincerely,
Gillian Smith and the YHS PA Executive
