On April 19th, the ISABC Grade 6 & 7 Public Speaking Event was held at York House School. Sixteen schools from the Lower Mainland, Vancouver Island, and Kelowna participated, with close to 100 students sharing their thoughts on the topic: “What Matters?”
This year, students prepared a speech using a different approach from previous ISABC Public Speaking Events. The new format was a shortened version of an Ignite or a TED Talks style presentation, with students creating slides to support and enhance their talk. This more modern approach to speaking connects well with the new BC Ministry of Education curriculum and its focus on inquiry, student-driven learning, and digital literacy. It was an incredible day filled with insightful speeches and memorable moments.
Congratulations to Grade 7 students Emma and Ella, who won first and third place respectively, and to Olivia, Joyce, Sapphira, and Lauren for their incredible performances that contributed to York House winning the top performing school trophy!
