YHS Talks

We held our second YHS Talks of the year on Friday, March 1. Five students spoke on topics important to them. Each spoke eloquently about her own experience or journey and the entire student body sat riveted by the sincerity and thoughtfulness of each individual’s story. Many of us laughed, cried, and then celebrated the incredible courage these young women showed to get on stage and share so much about themselves. Thank you to all of you; you are incredible role models in our community. There was a great deal to learn from each and every one of you!

Yorkies “Walk in Her Shoes” for International Women’s Day

On Friday, March 8, YHS staff and students joined the “walk in her shoes” challenge in support of Care Canada, for International Women’s Day. CARE Canada calls on people “to walk in her shoes” in solidarity with women and families struggling to meet their daily needs.

The walk began with a whole-school assembly in the gym that included speakers, a poem, and a special performance of “Beautiful” by Christina Aguilera by Maren, Skye, Alisa, and Kiki.

It was wonderful to come together for this school-wide community event in support of women and girls around the world. We walked in support of human rights, inclusion, hope, justice, equality, and people’s access to basic needs such as water, food, healthcare, and education.
