Career Exploration with the Grade 10s

On Wednesday, January 19, in a collaboration with the Career-Life-Connections Program and the Alumnae Office, six alumnae presented to students about their university paths and career journeys. The purpose of the event was to give students the opportunity to hear from alumnae about their careers and the decisions they made along the way. Six different industries were represented and these included Law, Architecture and Design, Business and Commercial Real Estate, Medicine & Neurology, Communications & Public Relations, and Health Sciences & Counselling Psychology.

Thank you to the following alumnae who took part: Click on the links below to read about our alumnae.

Students were engaged and proactive in the Q+As that followed each of the sessions and our hope is that these conversations fuel further interest and exploration of potential career pathways and future opportunities.

Senior Tigers Update: January 20, 2022

SKIERS DOMINATE THE SLOPES
Our YHS Ski and Snowboard Team have started their 2022 season with a dominant performance at Whistler-Blackcomb. On January 13, five Tigers skiers and one snowboarder were among 35 race competitors from various Vancouver schools that include West Point Grey, Point Grey Secondary, Kitsilano, and YHS. Our Tigers finished in the top four and placed five skiers in the top 10. Grade 9 standout, Nicole led the way with a first place finish, followed closely by Grade 10 star Maddie. This talented team also has some new Grade 8 stars as Alexa placed third and Isabelle placed 4th. In Grade 9, Kate placed 10th. Our next race is scheduled for January 21. We are hopeful that the Zone Championships and BC Championships take place in February and March. The Tigers will be competing for another BC title this season and for years to come with this young talent.

The Ski and Snowboard Team started in 2006-07. They won a BC Championship in that first year and eight provincial championships in the years since. Over the past few seasons, our skiers and snowboarders have been coached and supported by Mr. Lum and Ms. Jan Matthews. Along with the success in competition, this team has been fun and provided community-building opportunities that have brought many YHS ski families together. Many YHS ski parents have worked hard and given time and energy to support our student athletes. Thank you to the new generation of ski parents who supported the skiers this past week and to Ms. P. Wardle for the great photos below.
