Tigers Ski Team Provincial Champions

YHS Ski Team - BCSS Provincial ChampionsYork House Ski Team have just won the 2010-11 Provincial Championships in Kimberley, BC. For the first time ever, York House has won 2 BCSS Provincial Championships in one school year (our swim team took home the championship banner in November).

The girls were amazing and I can’t say enough about their skiing, behaviour and maturity (hard to believe with all grade 8’s except for 2 grade 9s!). The girls managed to bring the banner home after 2 years away. They defeated a very talented Seacove team by 10 points (quite a lot in skiing) and got their revenge for a 1 point loss last year.

Our snowboarders had a challenging championship as they were dealing with a whole lot of new experiences and nerves. Both Silvia and Joanna learned a lot and despite being very inexperienced, managed to represent the school very well and have a bright future ahead of them.

Thanks to all of you for your support of the team and the girls. A large part of the team is now racing for their club team in Panorama – they will be tired when they return!

Kelly – 1st overall skier in BC

Emma – 3rd overall skier in BC

Siobhan – 6th overall skier in BC

Please congratulate our superb French debate team. This exceptional group of girls competed in the Provincial Bilingual Debate Tournament on Saturday, February 26 at Crofton House School.

Julie and Leila competed in the senior category while Shannon and Muhan competed in the junior category. Since Julie placed first in the individual category, she has qualified for the National Bilingual Debate in 2012. This achievement is particularly outstanding as she was competing against Francophone students!

Julie and Leila placed second in the senior team category. Leila, who is only in Grade 9, debated against Grade 11 and 12 students. Shannon and Muhan who were competing for the first time, placed 4th.
