Sr. Volleyball: LMISSAA Champs!

LMISSAA Champions

A HUGE CONGRATS to the Sr. Volleyball team and coaches! For the first time ever, the senior team clinched the LMISSAA trophy with a 3-0 demolition of LFA. The Finals MVP was Michelle, Siobhan and Laura were League All-Stars and Emma was Team MVP.

Before advancing to the league championships, the girls beat STM in 5 (15-3 in the 5th with some huge clutch serves from Caitlin and some excellent defense from two Gr. 10s, Alex and Michelle).

The girls played the best volleyball we’ve seen from them this year, and quite possibly the best volleyball ever from a YHS team. There was some great defense on LFA big hitters, some great defense plays and the typical spectacular offense. Beating undefeated LFA 3-0 was impressive, but most impressive was the smiles, the positive energy and the fun the girls were having.

The team competes in the AA Lower Mainlands on Wednesday and Thursday afternoon.

The Sr. Volleyball team also recently took home the Spartan Cup from the 2013 Western Canadian Ind. School Volleyball Championships and decisively won their second straight ISA Trophy. Read about that here.

Gr. 2s Celebrate Diwali

Gr. 2s Celebrate Diwali

On Monday, November 4th, the Grade 2 girls participated in a Diwali celebration here at York House. Thanks to our wonderful organizing parents – Jessie, Selena, Mina and Shikha – the girls were able to celebrate the festival of light together.

We all listened to stories of Diwali celebrations around the world, wore bindis on our foreheads and bangles on our wrists, ate gulab jamun and made rangoli patterns from coloured rice in the amphitheatre. It was a colourful way to come together to celebrate the strength of our ties to each other and to celebrate our classroom community.

The girls also recently had the chance to listen to Annie Barrows, author of the Annie and Bean series, speak at the Vancouver Writers’ Festival. After returning to the school, the girls had many questions they wished they could have asked Annie, so they decided to send her an email – and she responded! Read about that here.
