Senior Tigers Update: February 21, 2019

JUNIOR BASKETBALL TEAM 3rd at LOWER MAINLANDS
Our provincially ranked Junior Tigers played at the Junior Lower Mainland Championships last week at Argyle Secondary in North Vancouver. Twelve of the best teams from North and West Vancouver, Burnaby, New Westminster, Vancouver, and Richmond all played off for the Lower Mainland title. This tournament also determines which teams qualify for the Junior BC Championships.

Our YHS Tigers had already qualified for the BCs earlier this year, however, still play to determine their ranking among all Lower Mainland teams. After an easy win over Magee in game one, the Tigers faced a red hot St. Thomas More Collegiate (STMC) team. YHS beat STMC last week in our LMISSGBA league championship game but on Friday, STMC got the better of a banged up Tigers team whose roster was not at full strength due to some injuries. STMC went on to defeat Argyle for the title while YHS defeated Notre Dame and Burnaby South to lock down 3rd place.

JUNIOR TIGERS at JUNIOR BCs
Next week (February 27, 28, and March 1, 2), the Junior Tigers will be competing at the BC Championships in Langley. Tournament information is here. You can follow the tournament online and even watched games being streamed live.

TIGERS PAWS FOR THOUGHT
“As parents, we have to hope that things don’t always come easy to our kids. Kids that have learned to compete for playing time, to find a role on a team, who can solve problems/conflicts on their own and who have learned to embrace the struggle to learn new skills will be much stronger in real life. Parents and Coaches working together to raise strong kids.” – Wise words from Bruce Brown @Proactivecoach

Junior Tigers Update: February 14, 2019

Well, like the old saying goes, “When it rains, it pours, and when it snows, the whole city shuts down!” The great snowstorm of 2019 wreaked havoc on traffic in the Lower Mainland, and impacted all of our JS Athletics teams. Practices, games, and ISEA events were all cancelled or rescheduled, as Athletics Coordinators scrambled to restore order to the schedule.

GRADE 5 BASKETBALL
The Grade 5 Basketball ISEA Playday has been rescheduled for Tuesday, February 26. The later date means a few more practices, and a chance to continue building skills and knowledge. Best of luck to the team.

GRADE 6 BASKETBALL
Unfortunately, the Grade 6 Basketball team has a game cancelled and their ISEA Playday rescheduled. The team will now participate in their ISEA Playday on Wednesday, February 20. In the meantime, the team will have an extra practice and get ready to rumble with at the Richmond Olympic Oval. Go Tigers!

GRADE 7 BASKETBALL
The Grade 7 Basketball teams have less disruptions to their schedules, but the A team did have to cancel their final regular season game. Both teams have found some additional practice time and a very much looking forward to their ISEA Tournaments, both of which are being played on February 22nd.

GRADES 3- 7 SWIMMING
The Swim team has continued to roll. Following an excellent showing at the St. George’s Elementary Swim Meet in late January, they had a team victory at the WPGA Elementary Swim Meet on February 7th. Way to go Tigers! The team will wrap up its season at the ISEA Swimming Championships on February 19. The Tigers are looking strong and should put up a great fight as they try to bring home the Girls Team Champions trophy. Good luck Tigers!
