Junior Tigers Update: November 17, 2022

BASKETBALL
This week saw the first basketball practices of the season take place in Rand Gymnaium. The Grade 7s were the first to hit the floor with their first of three “selection” practices. Over the course of the week, coaches will create two teams from our pool of 26 enthusiastic players. Those teams (A and B) will practice together but participate in two separate ISEA leagues. The emphasis this season will be “compete”. Our league is very competitive in both divisions, and the Tigers will look to earn their confidence by working very hard all over the basketball court. If our first session is any indication, we should expect a great deal of improvement as the season progresses.

For the Grade 5 and 6 Basketball teams, their seasons start next week with practices on Monday/Wednesday for Grade 5, and Tuesday/Thursday for Grade 6.

SWIM TEAM
The Swim Team will make their first splashes in the pool on November 28, with practices at 5:00 pm every Monday/Wednesday. For the first time in a long time, maybe ever, the Swim Team will now practice after school. This is a big change for the Swim Team that traditionally practiced at 6:30 am! The team of 60+ students will be a force in the water, and will undoubtedly contend for the ISEA Championship at the end of February.

Senior Tigers Update: March 31, 2022

SENIOR BASKETBALL PLACE 4TH IN BC:
Prior to March Break, our Tigers basketball Team finished off their season placing 4th at the AA BC Championships. This final four appearance adds to the storied success of our basketball teams over the past twenty-two years. The York House Tigers have reached the final four at BCs 15 times since 1999. The Tigers defeated Selkirk from Kimberley, BC, in game one and then defeated the Okanagan Champions from Kalamalka in Vernon, BC, in game two. In the semi-final, the Tigers played a rematch of the Vancouver Sea to Sky Final, taking on a very talented Mulgrave team. The Tigers played great, leading much of the second quarter and then trailed by just 3 points after three quarters. However, the depth and size of Mulgrave in the 4th quarter built an 8pt lead behind the amazing play of Grade 10 star and tournament best defensive player, Eva. In game 4, a depleted Tigers team battled hard but did not have enough to defeat SMUS from Victoria.

Some individual Tigers were recognized at BCs as tournament all-stars. Congratulations to Avery (Grade 12) named second team all-star and to Mila (Grade 12) named first team all-star.

Langley Christian defeated Mulgrave in the Championship final.
