Terry Fox Run & Sports-a-Rama

YHS joined together as a community for the Terry Fox Run on Friday, September 21. Students and staff walked or ran in Terry’s honour, in support of people who have experienced cancer, and to give to cancer research.

Everyone showed their spirit by dressing in athletic gear in their house colours, and they brought a donation to support the Terry Fox Foundation. Students in Grades 11 and 12 were paired with a “buddy” from Grades 1-3. Stations along the route had posters indicating each province of Canada from east to west. Terry Fox began his run in Newfoundland and ran as far as Thunder Bay, Ontario when he was forced to stop his Marathon of Hope due to cancer.

Thank you to our Senior School Student Executive Community Service Captains, Anika and Lucy, who were key leaders of this event, to Karen Webb who was a key point person, to the Jessica, Junior School Head, and Sophia, Junior Vice-Head, for their role in the event, and to all of our colleagues who are supporting this school-wide event in small and big ways.

For more information about Terry Fox and his Marathon of Hope, watch this video: Terry Fox, Anything’s Possible.

After the run, our senior girls took to the gym for Sports-a-Rama, our first House event of the year. Students and staff took part various games such as a three-legged obstacle course and a very spirited game of Dodgeball. Thank you to our House Captains, Isabel, Taylor, Saphren, and Olivia, for building school spirit.

Fun-a-Rama!

At the last house event of the year, students and staff came out in their brightest red, blue, green, and yellow. This year games included a three-legged race, and the always popular water balloon toss and tug-of-war. The event wrapped up with a very spirited “Slip n’ Slide”, complete with ratings from the house captains. What a great way to end the school year!
