Bike-to-School Week Parade

Bike-to-School Week was May 27 – May 31. Throughout the week students discussed bike safety, the environmental and health benefits, and the joy of riding a bike. Gr. 6 students were tasked with visiting a class each day to talk about the benefits of biking. At the end of the week, students were invited to come to school with their bike decorated. There was a parade of bikes on the field at lunch time. The brightly decorated bikes, from fresh flowers to streamers, certainly brightened up the campus. Yorkies in “Throughly Modern Millie”

Throughly Modern Millie
Kathleen & Anna are performing in “Throughly Modern Mille” at the Norman Rothstein Theatre.

Two Yorkies, Kathleen R. (Grade 9) and Anna P. (Grade 7) are performing this week in the musical “Thoroughly Modern Millie”. The girls are part of a local community musical theatre company for children in Grades 4 through 9, Encore Musical Theatre. These dedicated young people rehearse every week from September through June in order to put on their full-length musical theatre production in June.

This year’s show promises to be entertaining, with a wonderful set and colourful costumes. The roaring 20’s is celebrated through comedy, song and dance. Thoroughly Modern Millie is a show for young and old alike.

If you would like to see the show, it plays this week, Thursday, June 6 @ 7pm; Friday June 7 @ 7pm; and Saturday, June 8 @ 2pm and 7pm at the Norman Rothstein Theatre at 41st and Oak. Tickets may be purchased at www.encoremusicaltheatre.org.
