This year YHS’s annual talent show featured performances from students from York House, Crofton House, Saint George’s and West Point Grey.

It was a great turn out; many friends and family of the performers came out to see the magnificent show! All of the performers were spectacular and showcased that they really did have talent. The top three acts of the night won cash prizes. Third prize received $50, second prize received $100 and first prize received $200.

Here are the evening’s results:

Third Place

There was a tie for third prize between two groups of girls from YHS:
Olivia
(12) & Samantha (8) and Alice (12)
Carmalita (11) & Katie (12).

Second Place

The second prize went to the beautiful and talented singer Valerie from WPGA.

First Place

Lastly, the first prize winner was Austin from STG who shared his self-written rap piece with the audience.

A big thank you to our judges Ms. Boteju, Mr. Brown, Ms. Marti and Mr. Superina for helping pick our winners.

It was an amazing night and congratulations to all of our contestants who shared their talent with us. It was a real treat!

An Update from the Little School

Lunar New Year

Students in JK and SK celebrated the Lunar New Year, on February 3rd, with special activities. Parents helped the girls with crafts such as, paper lanterns and dragon puppets, and helped the SK girls cook chow mein and wontons.

Reading Buddies

The JK and SK girls from the little school have been paired with reading buddies from the junior school. The JK classes are paired with Grade 5 and the SK classes with Grade 3. The JK and SK girls read to their big buddies and also do crafts and other activities together. This week SKY travelled to the junior school to meet their buddies in 3Y for the first time. This partnership helps the girls develop their reading skills, while also providing a peer mentor.

Technology

Recently, the JK and SK classes at the little school received an ipad and an ipod touch. The students are using this technology to practice literacy, printing, math, and critical thinking skills. The girls have enjoyed having them in the classroom, and have even taught their teachers a few things!
