Sr. Volleyball: ISA Champions

For the fourth year in a row, the Tigers have brought home the ISA trophy. The girls were unbelievable, fighting hard to win a very well earned championship.

Friday, the Tigers easily won their pool games beating Collingwood, Glenlyon Norfolk, St. Michaels University School and Stratford Hall. Saturday they faced Southridge in an exciting semi-final. The Tigers won game one, while Southridge bounced back and won game two 28-26. In game three, Southridge jumped out 6-2 and 8-4 before the Tigers came back to tie it 10-10, and then went on to win 15-13. In the final, the Tigers faced Brentwood College (currently ranked sixth AA in BC). Our Tigers beat them 2-0 to claim ISA gold! SrVBISAs_Oct2015XMichelle was an absolute phenom and the leadership from our other Grade 12, Alex, was huge. Alex has been injured the last few weeks and her leadership has been sorely missed.

The girls played some outstanding volleyball and Coach Ruse was instrumental in getting the girls back on track during tough times. It was very exciting to watch. Great job coaches (Chris Ruse, Tamara Rosenlund and Anna Wilson ‘09), outstanding team play from our girls! Thank you to those who came out to support the team, especially superfan Mme. Rousseau.

The girls play their last home match of the season Wednesday, November 4 at home (6:30 pm). It is Seniors night and we will be recognizing Michelle and Alex for their contributions to YHS over the past five years.

Varsity Field Hockey Team BC Championship Bound

The Varsity Field Hockey Team is heading to the 2015 AA BC Championships after a dramatic 2-0 victory over the Little Flower Academy Angels (LFA) to earn the second and final Van-Richmond Zone berth to the BC’s.

Three previous matches vs. LFA all ended in ties. Wednesday, October 28, was the final, deciding game and a fourth tie would have led to a shoot-out to determine the winner. However, the Tigers didn’t let that happen. Instead Shae put them up 1-0 in the first half. Fully prepared for LFA to come out aggressively in the second half, the Tigers held their ground and in the dying minutes of the third quarter, Julia scored off a rebound giving the Tigers a 2-0 lead.

The final quarter was hard fought as the Angels were not going to go down without a fight. The Tigers matched that toughness holding on to a convincing 2-0 victory, and another shutout for goaltender Aria.

The Tigers will head to Victoria, Nov 4-5-6 for the 2015 BC Championships!

Congrats to the girls and their coaches: Mr. Bissett and Mr. Cropley.
