Over 50 Tigers competed at the 2012 ISEA Cross-Country Championship at Quilchena Park on October 30th. Approximately 800 athletes, Grades 3-7, competed in one of the largest ISEA events of the year.

It was a very special day for the Grade 3 team as it was their first ISEA event. The YHS Tigers competed with spirit and courage. Each grade ranked in the top ten. Our Grade 3 and Grade 6 teams were recognized as the Silver and Bronze Grade Level Winners, respectively. The YHS team placed third overall. Congratulations Tigers!

Many thanks to the coaches, assistant student coaches, Alvina S. and Catherine L. as well as many parents who helped to train and support the team.

A Gold Weekend for the Tigers

It was an outstanding weekend for Tigers Athletics! The Swim Team went to the Zone Championships and brought home gold. The Junior Field Hockey Team came first in their division, and lost a nail-biter on Thursday after 2 rounds of shoot outs to bring home Silver. The Grade 8 Volleyball Team brought home Gold from ISAs, and our Senior Volleyball Team followed with ISA Gold as well!

Our Senior Volleyball team captured the Gold medal at ISAs for the first time since 2001. The girls played tremendously with gutsy performances by everyone, especially Laura W. who had the flu, to defeat Crofton in 3. This was sweet redemption for the girls after a disappointing loss last weekend to Crofton at Westerns. It is also the first Gold won by a Senior Tigers team in a number of years and the girls are VERY excited (as is their coach!).

We will have a presentation at our next assembly (in two weeks) but please do congratulate them, and also congratulate our three juniors that helped the team get to the finals (Megan W., Courtney W., and Michelle L.).

We have 3 games this week so if you’d like to see some good volleyball come and cheer them on. We play at WPGA on Monday, at home vs. STM on Tuesday (5pm), and our senior night is on Wednesday vs St. Pats (3:30 game).

Thanks for all your support!
Chris Ruse, Coach

The Provincial Championships will be held Nov 16-17 at Watermania in Richmond and at that meet, the Tigers will be seeking their 3rd straight Provincial Team Banner.
