GRADE 6 VOLLEYBALL
Our Grade 6 Volleyball team travelled to the Richmond Olympic Oval for the ISEA Playday on November 2. Coaches Miss Murray and Ms. Romako split the girls in to three teams for the day. Thanks to Mr. Camp who joined the team for the day of fun! The girls came back to YHS reporting how much fun they had at the Playday. Our coaches were quite impressed with the level of improvement and they are looking forward to seeing our Grade 6 continue to play next year. A big thank you to our awesome coaches for their time and to our players for their dedication towards improving and having fun!

GRADE 7 VOLLEYBALL
Both of our Grade 7 teams participated in their respective ISEA Tournaments on November 2nd. Both teams had great days, and demonstrated that Tigers really can bring their best when the big moment arrives.

The B team had a great tournament. It started with a challenge match against Southridge on October 30th. The winner of the match won the right to move on to the tournament, and with their season on the line, the Tigers roared! Feeling a huge boost of confidence, the Tigers charged in to the tournament and played their best volleyball of the season winning two matches and losing two matches to finish in 5th place. Well done girls!

The A team arrived at their tournament with a big target on their backs as the number 1 seed, and the clear-cut team to beat. The team got off to a great start, but suffered a bit of a set back in their second match. Rival team WPGA got the best of our girls. Fortunately, the triple knock-out format allowed the team to shake off their slow start and refocus. It was not long before the Tigers got to win their coveted rematch with WPGA, and move to the finals. In the finals the Tigers met a game, but the Mulgrave team that at the end of the day was no match for York House. The Tigers won the tournament and claimed the title of ISEA Champions. Congrats to our coaches and players for a great season.

BASKETBALL
Grade 7 basketball selections are underway and the first games of the season are just around the corner. Grade 5 (Mon/Wed) and Grade 6 (Tues/Thur) basketball teams begin practice next week, following the Remembrance Day long weekend. Go Tigers!

SWIMMING
Our Junior School Swim Team has their first practice on November 19th at Saint George’s School (6:30 am). We are looking forward to another excellent season of swimming.

Senior Tigers Update: November 1, 2018

These past few weeks have been very busy but the time, work, commitment has paid off in some terrific results for our YHS Tigers. Congratulations to all of our student-athletes and to our coaching staff who have done an amazing job!

Volleyball makes it 3 for 3…Grade 8 Volleyball, Junior Volleyball, and Senior Volleyball are all ISA CHAMPIONS!

This past week highlights …

Senior Volleyball: ISA Champs

SENIOR VOLLEYBALL ISA CHAMPIONS
Our Senior Tigers looked like the #1 AA Team in BC this weekend going undefeated at the 16 team Senior ISA Championships hosted by Crofton House (CHS). The Tigers cruised through round robin play and the playoff round and met CHS, BC’s #1 AAA team in the championship final. There was a packed house at CHS with a huge Tigers crowd matching CHS in size and volume. Our Tigers played great. We dominated game one and held on for a 25-23 win. Game two started great as well until the CHS coach protested to the referee, delaying the game, and destroying our momentum. CHS bounced back and took game two 25-21. Game three was tight throughout but our Tigers, facing game point at 14-13, bounced back to win 16-14. Here is a video of the final point

JUNIOR TIGERS – 6W – 1L at SENIOR ISAs:
As if our Senior Tigers didn’t provide enough excitement at ISAs, our Junior Team was also among the 16 teams at the Senior tournament and were amazing. Our Junior’s won Junior ISAs last week. At Senior ISAs they won all their games except for one vs CHS Seniors, but they played them tough. Our Junior Tigers beat the following Senior Teams: Collingwood, Mulgrave, St. Michaels University School, St. Margaret’s School, St. John’s and CHS Junior’s. Had the Junior Tigers not been playing exhibition play, they likely would have placed 5th among 16 teams. Great weekend Juniors!
