Senior Teams Win Silver, Junior B Wins Tier 2
Day 1 from Newton Athletic Park, Surrey
The Senior ‘A’ team went 3-0, winning their pool in convincing fashion. Senior ‘B’ qualified for the championship bracket in Tier 2 with a 2-1 record. Junior ‘A’ also qualified for the championship bracket with a 2-1 record, while Junior ‘B’ dominated the field and finished first in pool play.
Day 2 from Newton Athletic Park, Surrey
The Senior ‘A’ Team beat St. Thomas More Collegiate in the quarter-final, then won their semi-final game to face top ranked Sutherland in the championship final.
In the final, the team started slow and found themselves down 4-1, then 5-2. They fought back and took the lead 7-5. From then on it was a battle back and forth with the York/Saints team leading 13-12 at one point. Unfortunately, Sutherland proved to the better team (and they really were, especially one player that we’ve been told is the top male player in Canada). The team lost this tough final game 15-3, placing 2nd in BC, with a silver medal.
While the girls were clearly disappointed with the loss, it was one of the best ultimate games I’ve seen and the girls were outstanding. Laura played every point (the only person on the field to do that from either team), and played a huge part in the contest.
The Junior ‘A’ team also lost in the finals 13-12, winning silver.
Junior and Senior ‘B’ Teams
The Senior ‘B’ team placed 8th of the Tier 2 provincials. The team had an amazing Saturday (they won 4 of 5 games), and are pretty excited about the top eight finish.
The Junior ‘B’ team (Grade 8 team) won the Junior Tier 2 Provincials! Alumna Christina Douglas ‘02 is one of the coaches for this team.
