Dear Parents,
Happy New Year! I hope that you have enjoyed quality time with family and friends over the holidays. I enjoyed having my parents visit over the holidays and discover Vancouver and Whistler for the first time. They were impressed with York House School and the beauty of the city.
We are looking forward to having the girls return to school on Tuesday, January 12th. On Monday, Dr. Ron Ritchhart, a widely respected Senior Research Associate at Project Zero, Harvard Graduate School of Education will facilitate a full-day workshop for faculty on the “Cultures of Thinking Project“. Under his direction, this initiative focuses on understanding how to create a culture of thinking that empowers students and fosters deep understanding. Teachers will be provided with frameworks, tools and strategies, derived from the “Cultures of Thinking Project”. This is an exciting opportunity for our faculty and will energize everyone for the start of the new year.
I know that many of us create New Year’s resolutions that focus on leading more active and healthy lives. While we don’t expect our girls to set these same resolutions, helping our girls attend to their social and emotional well-being is essential in supporting them to reach their full potential. Research supports that girls who feel well because they are eating properly, sleeping well and enjoying positive relationships, perform better at school overall. As our students return from their holidays, we hope that they are well rested and energized.
Here’s to a fabulous 2016 for our entire York House community!
Sincerely,
Chantal Gionet
Head of School
