On Monday, June 20, 2016 the annual YHS Staff Appreciation Luncheon was held in the Gail Ruddy Foyer. This year’s theme was Japanese and the staff enjoyed a delicious luncheon of sushi and Japanese appetizers along with a beautiful cake buffet for dessert.
It was such a treat to have live Japanese music for the lunch as well. A band of four came in full kimonos to play the Kuta for the guests while they had lunch. It really added to the atmosphere!
Many thanks to the Grade 1 parents for providing the cakes for the buffet, to Jocelyn McGowan for doing a beautiful cupcake platter with painted Japanese cherry blossoms on it for all to enjoy, and to Lisa Tsai for providing the Kuta players.
Also special thanks to Lori Hill who made a delicious mango lychee mocktail and to Susan Postma-Morzaria and Kelly Liu who headed up a group that did the decorations for the event.
The foyer was elegantly decorated with a dramatic paper flower wall, lanterns and stunning flower displays that included orchids and cherry blossoms. A note of particular thanks to Kristina West and her mom for donating and putting together the beautiful flower arrangements for the event. They really were the crowning glory to the room. Kristina even had a special time with the SK class making Ikebana flower displays that graced the tables and were then given to the teachers at the Little and Junior School.
It was an outstanding event and the staff commented many times on how grateful they were for it and how much they enjoyed themselves.
