The Grade 8 English classes travelled to the Vancouver Planetarium on October 25 to launch their mythology unit. In conversation with the curriculum designers at the Planetarium, teachers Sara Sjerven and Kara McDonald developed an experience for the Star Theatre that included a glimpse of the night sky from the perspective of Manning Park in early September, tales of the night sky that connect people across time and space, and questions about the science of the stars. Students’ questions at the theatre inspired further exploration and a sharing of insights on wonder charts in their YHS classrooms with the Vancouver October 25 night sky at the centre.
