On Tuesday, March 10, YHS staff and students joined the “Walk in Her Shoes” challenge in support of Care Canada, for International Women’s Day. CARE Canada calls on people “to walk in her shoes” in solidarity with women and families struggling to meet their daily needs.
The walk began with a whole-school assembly in the gym that included speeches from our Senior School Community Service Captains, Dana and Chloe, and the Junior School Head and Vice-Head, Kate and Hannah. There was a special performance by the Senior Choir of Aretha Franklin’s “Respect”, featuring Grade 11 students Skye and Kiara.
It was wonderful to come together for this school-wide community event in support of women and girls around the world. With this walk, we supported Care Canada’s work to promote these areas:
- an equal world is an enabled world;
- individually, we’re all responsible for our own thoughts and actions – all day, every day;
- we can actively choose to challenge stereotypes, fight bias, broaden perceptions, improve situations, and celebrate women’s achievements;
- collectively, each one of us can help create a gender-equal world.
