Junior Tigers Update: November 4, 2021

VOLLEYBALL
On Tuesday, November 2, the final games of the 2021 season were played by our Grade 7B Volleyball team. Along with West Point Grey Academy (WPGA) and Collingwood School, we travelled to Crofton House to play in a mini-tournament. The tournament was very well played, and at the end of the evening, the Tigers stood tall, capturing second place by defeating both Collingwood and WPGA. Well done Tigers!

Well… that’s not entirely true. The REAL final games of the season were played this past Tuesday and Wednesday, as each of the Grade 7 teams took on… AND DEFEATED, the Junior School Staff! We are happy to report that no teachers were hurt in the playing of these super intense volleyball matches.

Overall, it was another excellent season of volleyball participation. All told, 78 students from Grades 5 through 7 earned their volleyball stripes this year. Coaches saw incredible commitment to practice, which of course resulted in tremendous improvement at all levels. Speaking of coaches, we need to thank all of our volleyball coaches for their time and dedication to our students. Please join me in congratulating and thanking Ms. Marcotte and Ms. Howe (Grade 7A), Ms. Murray (Grade 7B), Mr. Jackson (Grade 6), and both Ms. Kavavos and Ms. Rivero (Grade 5). We would also like to thank all of our student coaches. We have a long history of Senior School students returning to the Junior School to lend their expertise and knowledge to our next wave of players. It was a highly enjoyable season at all levels, and each team should be very proud of their successful season.

BASKETBALL
With the conclusion of our fall sports, we now turn our attention to our two winter sports. Starting in mid-November, the familiar sound of dribbling and shooting will return to Rand Gymnasium as the ever-powerful Tigers take to the hardcourt. Once again we will be offering four teams for Grades 5, 6, and 7. In addition, we are happy to announce that ISEA games will be returning to our schedule.
