On November 8th, the Junior School and Senior School held assemblies to commemorate Remembrance Day. The Junior School assembly was hosted by our Grade 6 students and included a reading of the poem “In Flanders Field”, a touching performance by our Grade 3/4 choir, and a Senior School drama enactment of “Letters by Mrs Evelyn Merrit”.
The Senior School Assembly was led by Vice-Head Stephanie (Grade 12) and focused on underrepresented voices throughout the wars including Indigenous peoples while honouring those who gave their lives for our freedoms. “Amazing Grace” was performed by our Grade 9 band, an original poem was recited by Poet Laureate Emma (Grade 12), and Drama students once again enacted “Letters by Mrs Evelyn Merrit”. Maggie (Grade 11) concluded the assembly with a reflection on poetry during WWI in Canada.
The whole school (staff and students from grades 1-12) gathered on the field for a moving moment of silence where Alycia (Grade 12) performed “The Last Post” and “The Rouse” on the trumpet.
