Yorkies at Canadian Improv Games

For the first time in three years, the Canadian Improv Games was held in person, and York House School entered a team of 10 amazing improvisers, including two alternates, across Grades 8 to 12. The team rehearsed every Friday afternoon with an expert coach and YHS alum, Laura Reynolds, to learn the four games that they were to play at the competition. They then attended an exhibition round in Burnaby against four schools, where they received excellent feedback from the judges as to their ability to work exceptionally well as a team.

The team then competed in the semi-finals at the Cultch Theatre on February 8th, where they performed against three more schools to score the second-highest points total, advancing them to the finals on Saturday, February 11th. This was an amazing night of entertainment, with five talented schools all displaying their outstanding improv skills and performing at such a high level. While they didn’t win the competition, York House School placed 5th out of 12 schools in the Lower Mainland competition.

Congratulations to the team for their true sportsmanship at all events, and their ability to work so well together as a team of students from Grades 8 to 12. Please join me in congratulating the following students for their accomplishments: Yirui, Emilie, and Sarah from Grade 12, Storm and Lucy from Grade 11, Kai and April from Grade 10, Imy from Grade 9, and Ana Sofia and Stella from Grade 8.
